EIGHT new models have been added to Peugeot's 308 hatchback range while the S, Sport and SE HDi 110 models gain an extra gear in the form of a new six-speed manual gearbox.
Compared to the original five-speed manual gearbox, and depending on driving conditions, the new box optimises fuel consumption; when fitted with 15” or 16” Michelin Energy Saver tyres, 308 models with the new gearbox have a combined fuel consumption of 62.7 mpg and CO2 emissions of 129 g/km.
The 308 range also benefits from the introduction of a second new gearbox, the six-speed EGC gearbox (Electronic Gearbox Control). The electronically controlled manual gearbox, which removes the need for a clutch pedal, will appeal to drivers who like to change gear manually, but also enjoy the stress-free driving provided by ‘automatic’ gear changes. Models fitted with this gearbox emit 120 g/km of CO2 and have a combined fuel consumption of 62.7 mpg. However the gearbox is available in the S and SE HDi 110 models only.
The final new gearbox is a six-speed automatic fitted to the 2.0 litre HDi 136 diesel engine. This automatic gearbox with “Porsche Tiptronic” sequential control should appeal to drivers who are prefer the convenience and ease of use of autoamtics while still having the option for more active driving in the sequential mode.
Two new engine options have been added to the 308 Sport version. One petrol, the 1.4 litre VTi 95 and the other the 1.6 litre HDi 90.
With the introduction of these new models, this now takes the tally of 308 models that emit 120g/km to seven.
